THEMUSICALREVOLUTION.COM THIS MONTH: Big RevoWelcome to our newest member, Em: Check this out: This past month has been the busiest on record for TheMusicalRevolution; better than double our total hits for last month and almost 2500 brand new visitors from almost 70 different countries. Part of the reason is that October is a slow month. Part of it is the great MySpace and Facebook traffic we've been enjoying. But. A great deal of it has been the presence of basement musicians 'The GP's'. I'd like to personally thank the boys for letting us debut their first three singles from their forthcoming album, 'Fight For Fame'. For more on the boys check our Oct. newsletter: http://www.themusicalrevolution.com/weblog/monthly_newsletters/index.html and join us in encouraging them to start up their own MySpace page so we can hear more of their music.
EDITORIAL:
http://www.garageband.com/user/i220
As you all are now painfully aware, I'm sure, I've been pimping the new song, 'Measures' by Toronto M.C. feat. (which was produced by yours truly, a.k.a. i220) alot as of late. Well, now I've gone and entered it online at GarageBand.com for review and appreciation.
The schtick of GB is that artists/bands can submit their music for listening and review. Music lovers/other artists review the songs/pieces and the best reviewed get a chance at a record deal.
Now, I'm sure that you can see as many flaws in this idea(l) as I can, but the fact remains that quite a bit of the feedback (that not being delivered by sulking idiots who can't understand why they aren't the next BIG thing yet ;) is very helpful. Even more inspiring is that quite a lot of the music is really good and actually 'alternative'. Now, where there's a rating system there's corruption but, this site is just enough under the radar that I think their charts have far more legitimacy than the ones published by the big dogs!
So...
Check it! Do it! We have:
And.
Listen to the radio again, knowing that the songs being played were actually ones chosen by YOU :D
Love,
Mattyy
MUSIC NEWS:
1. NOTHING TO REPORT: Yeah - you read it right. I'm sure that musicians did things of consequence this past month. I'm sure that someone, somewhere reported on it. But, aside from Paris backing out of going to Rwanda and Radiohead's album release going from revolutionary to mediocre to publicity stunt, I haven't heard a thing :S Have you?
2. DO YOU CARE?: Man, even the joke news is weak this month. Diddy gettin' sued again? I'ma going to call him PMart from now on... Ok. Let the shitshow begin. Kanye and Jacko are about to throw down "ON WAX"! I can hear the acceptance speech now. "I'd like to thank little Timmy for voting for us. And little Jenny, Little Marie and Little... Well, this kinda changes shit up a bit doesn't it? Apparently, Pac's bodyguard was a federali. Man, do I feel safe now :S... Courtney 'cash-in' Love is planning yet another Kurt Cobain appreciation thingy which I refuse to promote 'cause I think that she's a money grubbin'.. wait a minute.. I just did promote it?.. Damn! LOL!... And finally the BIG news! Aqua is BACK biTches! That's right. Drink it in. I can sense the excitement!
*Collected from a variety of online NEWS sources and summed up here for your enjoyment/enlightenment.*
Until next month,
Please contribute to better music. YOUR music.

Tue.Oct.30/07 - Fall Out Boy, Maroon 5, the Academy Is, Hot Hot Heat plus many more will all donate funds from shows to Darfur that day.
This is the second year that Myspace.com has done this - last year they raised over $50,000 US.
Question: Do you think of these acts of goodwill as business moves or people just genuinely caring? I like to think of it as the latter but, there is no escaping the fact that it's mostly up and comers that do them - not the big guns. Not judging, just 'inquiring'.

Search "Belly Dancing" on YouTube and you'll find hundreds of entries. I checked into about a half dozen or so videos. A lot of the commentary was negative. I felt kind of bad, because the girls were doing their best and it seemed to me that they were being judged more by their appearance than their talents, but then, what do I know about dancing :D
Here's one that did seem to satisfy:

My wife first sparked my interest in this artform; very sexy and quite difficult I am told.
What do you think?

A heartfelt thankyou to my friends - and a gig recap (MADNESS!)
HUGE thanks to all that came out to my little show at Noah's Ark last night. You have all earned a special place in my heart for your support - I honestly say, I couldn't have done it without you!
For those who weren't able to make it, thanks for your encouraging words and hopefully I see you in the not so distant future :D
For the interested, here's a vague recap of last nights madness:
So it's my first gig in well over a year so I'm a bit nervous - for maybe the first time ever :S
I show up like a total geek an hour and a half before gig time and set up all of my shiney new gear (picture the kid coming back to school looking right out of the Walmart flyer :)
So, as I'm chillin with the locals, gradually some friends show up and I'm starting to feel it a bit.
At about 10 minutes to showtime, I get this tap on the shoulder - it's Dave, the resident musician.
Dave tells me that the bar owner has double booked the bar - him and me - so we'll be doing a double bill for the night.
I strike my gear and wait for my chance to play.
Meanwhile, he sets up and fires into this full set, complete with backing tracks and electric guitar - dood's seasoned!
And just when he's got everything firing on all cylinders, he calls me up to play, "So, now Matt the acoustic guy is gonna jam a few numbers."
I bang out a few - with a completely foreign system, all nerved out and it goes.. well... rocky.
Luckily for me, I had a great group of supporters in the house and they not only carried me through the set, but made the bar sit up and recognize.
Needless to say, Dave and I jammed a few tunes - some went well, others not so much.
More folks showed and I got more shine - things went better.
I think that this moment sums up the night in a nutshell:
I'm jammin' a tune on stage, dood's playing beside me - I can't hear my guitar or vocal 'cause he's so loud - he doesn't really know the song so he's trying to follow and sometimes the notes aren't matching - it's hit and miss - I have a friend out scouting me for another bar - the bar manager is watching me to see if I can handle myself - I'm just holding on for dear life! The song ends - I hope that all went well and there's this crowd of people beside me who just erupt! The moral of the story - even when every odd is stacked against you, you're friends can carry you through.
Thanks.
Love,
Mattyy

Electronic Artist Speak Lexia shares music on FB.
Check here: http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=71855269
This is a friend of mine who is a very talented live musician. I didn't know that he wrote electronic music as well but was pleasantly surprised when I heard this music. Without a doubt, it is some of the best that I've heard in the genre! I really hope others get to hear it.
NOTE: This is my opinion, and obviously a biased one, so check in.
