THEMUSICALREVOLUTION.COM THIS MONTH: Big RevoWelcome to our newest member: Mel. Check this out: This past month, we witnessed our biggest lyrical miracle yet. EDITORIAL:

2006.
Universal Music: 31.61% of the market share.
Sony/BMG: 27.44% of the market share.
Warner Music Group: 18.14% of the market share.
EMI: 10.2% of the market share.

Other labels/independent: 12.61% of the market share.

Rock was the #1 music genre of 2006 - 170.7 million purchases.

Over 1 billion music purchases were made in the U.S.

Sorry for momentarily barfing numbers all over the page, but it proves to be the easiest way to make a point:
- 4 MAJOR corporations monopolizing 87+% of our music.
- A 50+ year old genre ruling the airwaves.
- Folks STILL buying in record numbers.

Dis-gust-ING! YeeeeeechHH! LOL :S What has happened? What are we? Rich? Seems like it. Stuck in a rut? Maybe. But. Are we that corporate? Are we really that happy with the 4 richest people in the world choosing our music for us? No wonder they infected Bob Marley and shot John Lennon (JK).

Well. Here's what I think. These (reported) numbers and facts are way skewed. Independent record sales are hardly ever recorded. The 4 labels PAY for rock to be played and sold. And. As far as music selling in record numbers... well that's bullshit too ;) In Jan.07, the coveted number one album spot in the great USofA was captured with less than 70,000 units sold per week (record lows).

Don't buy tha hype. Muzak will never win!
Let's take soundscan back.
BlaH!
Love,
Mattyy
