THEMUSICALREVOLUTION.COM THIS MONTH: Big RevoWelcome to our newest members: Ernie. Check this out: This month, we were once again graced by the poetic talents of Toronto poet, Omaha RisinG. Mr. Rising asked that his poetry be scanned in rather than simply cut and pasted. One look at his piece, UMBRA should tell you why: http://www.themusicalrevolution.com/weblog/freestylelyricspoetry/index.html
Much love and thanks to Omaha.

EDITORIAL:

It was back in the early '90s that I started to develop a strong LOVE relationship with the funk; not the kind of huggy/kissy "love" that 13 year olds have at the outset of puberty but the deep, hip grinding, lustful love that adults enjoy when they are both desperate and lucky ;P

That being said, the passing of one Mr. James Joseph Brown, Jr. has made this holiday season as serious as it has been joyous for me.

At this juncture, I could start to eulogize. I could point out that without JB, there would be no hip hop, no funk attitude and that soul would be... But, that would only dishonour a man who defies words, whos deeds are undefineable and who gave us so much more.

So, I propose a moment of silence and reflection this holiday season for the aptly named Godfather...

Love,
Mattyy

MUSIC NEWS:

1. NEW POP ALBUM LAUNCHED BY NOBEL PEACE PRIZE LAUREATE: Bangladeshi Banker, Muhammad Yunus is backing an album and video ("Hear Me Now") by British-Norwegian group The Green Children. All proceeds are to go to the building of an eye hospital.

2. JAMES BLUNT JOINS FORCES WITH MEDICINS SANS FRONTIERS: The English singer/former NATO peacekeeper has raised $205,000 for relief agency Medicins Sans Frontieres.

3. ALL MOZART SCORES AVAILABLE FOR FREE ON WWW: http://www.mozarteum.at/
We can thank the International Mozart Foundation, based in Wolfgang's birthplace, Salzburg, Austria for giving us the music. Publisher, Barenreiter of Kassel paid $400,000 for the digital publication rights.

4. IS BBC RADIO 3 DUMBING DOWN IT'S PROGRAMMING?: British MPs on both sides are concerned that the Bs commitment to less live content is not a good move. Politicians argue that the move reduces choice and support for new (and local) artists.

5. BON JOVI/KENNETH COLE FOR THE HOMELESS: The Pop Rock group and fashion designer have teamed up to raise funds for New York homeless. 'R.S.V.P. to Help', an acoustic set and VIP party, will take place at the Tribeca Rooftop in New York City on January 25th.

WHO CARES?: Snoop Dogg is an impostor! At least according to Suge Knight.. Suge Who?.. I was going to say something about Jessica Simpson in this newsletter but apparently she was too nervous... Mariah Carey. Mary Carey.. I don't see the difference, do you?.. Kanye Knievel is going down! Apparently the Evel one didn't appreciate Mr. West ruining his good name. Good?.. Finally, that damn Rolph Harris has apologized for the lyrics to his famous 'Tie Me Kangaroo Down, Sport'. It's only a matter of time 'til he apologizes for the music too... P Diddy welcomed twin daughters into the world this past month. And to celebrate, he wore a dog fir coat to the christening... Finally, Bono has been knighted. We can't call the irish singer "Sir" though.. I guess "God" 'll have to do :S.. And here we go again. Another rapper that did nothing while alive will become famous now that he's dead. D12's Proof is about to release an album and make everyone but him rich. Watta Werld... And. Last but not least. After more than 30 years, the FBI has decided to release their very dangerous file on John Lennon. And.. Nothing has happened... Bye.

'06 Happy Holidays Everyone!!

...and a HAPPY NEW YEAR TOO!

Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St Nicholas soon would be there.
A TheMusicalRevolution.Com Freestyle, Song Lyric or Poem

The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads.
And mamma in her 'kerchief, and I in my cap,
Had just settled our brains for a long winter's nap.

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a miniature sleigh, and eight tinny reindeer.

With a little old driver, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be St Nick.
More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name!

"Now Dasher! now, Dancer! now, Prancer and Vixen!
On, Comet! On, Cupid! on, on Donner and Blitzen!
To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!
Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!"

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky.
So up to the house-top the coursers they flew,
With the sleigh full of Toys, and St Nicholas too.

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof
The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.
As I drew in my head, and was turning around,
Down the chimney St Nicholas came with a bound.

He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot.
A bundle of Toys he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a peddler, just opening his pack.

His eyes-how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow.

The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,
And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath.
He had a broad face and a little round belly,
That shook when he laughed, like a bowlful of jelly!

He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself!
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And filled all the stockings, then turned with a jerk.
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose!

He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim, 'ere he drove out of sight,
"Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!"

So. Wondering why I'm dropping 3 well known mainstream media websites at the outset of this month's newsletter; one reppin' Canada, another the UK and the third the US. Thinkin' 'bout clickin' those sites to see whatup? Wanna find out what's happening in entertainment today?

Me too :) I check in with these organizations as well as many others each and every week to find out what "important" is going on in the world of music and it's practitioners. In turn, I like to relay the real life-changing news over to you. You see, wading through all of the B.S. and K-Feds to get to the real news (the music/musicians who are making the world a truly better place) can be quite a challenge.

Well, for some odd reason, it just got harder. Strange happenings. The three of these sites all made online upgrades (seemingly) simultaneously. At the same time, it would appear that finding any real news on their respective pages would become all the more difficult. A few of this month's (revo)headlines didn't even appear on the MTV/Much/BBC entertainment pages. Others appeared days later. My computer is 3-4 years old, I have a DSL connection and I can't even load up the MTV pages anymore???

Most likely this is all just coincedence. BUT. It makes for a solid conspiracy theory if anyone were willing to construct one. Myself, I just rely a little heavier on other sources. And the great thing is that the more irrelevent that those heavy hitters get, the less they hold the people's interests - the more folx look to the likes of me - Go[o]d help us! Maybe these heads should consider THAT and be afraid... very afraid *evil laugh* :D

Mattyy

MUSIC NEWS:

1. HISTORY OF MUSIC ABOUT TO CHANGE WITH DISCOVERY OF AUTOGRAPHED FROBERGER MANUSCRIPT: Johann Jacob Froberger (1616-67) was the formost German keyboard composer of his day and an influence on JS Bach himself. Mozart also knew his music. A previously unknown collection of 35 of his pieces (18 unknown, others containing differences to currently accepted versions) has come up for auction. This collection is most remarkable in that it represents the earliest sample ever of a composer's autographed works (known to date).

2. UNIVERSAL MUSIC GROUP SUES MYSPACE: The king of all music labels is seeking $150,000/song from the popular social networking site. UMG is upset because Jay-Z's forthcoming album, Kingdom Come, has been prematurely leaked through the site that has recently been acquired by News Corp.

3. 30 SECONDS TO MARS MAKE HISTORY BY SHOOTING ENTIRE VIDEO IN CHINA: The popular rock outfit filmed "From Yesterday" in the Forbidden City and the Emperor Qin palace making them the first Americans to do so.

4. YOKO ONO ASKS WORLD'S POOR AND SUFFERING FOR FORGIVENESS: In time for the anniversary of John Lennon's murder, his wife issued a full-page notice in the 'New York Times' pleading with the under-privileged. The article reaches out to those who have lost loved ones without cause.

5. GREEN DAY LOOK TO WORLD RELIANT ON RENEWABLE ENERGY: One of the world's most popular pop/punk bands has aligned itself with The Move America Beyond Oil campaign in association with the Natural Resources Defense Center. The partnership hope to encourage youth to help clean up the world by demanding renewable energy solutions. A website has been set up at: http://www.greendaynrdc.com/

6. WHO CARES?: So! Can we STOP hearing about Kevin Federline now, please?.. Kanye West!!! Way to be the only thing entertaining in the entertainment industry as of late. LOL... It wasn't Beyonce's lavish fur coat that pissed off Pink. Pink "Richards" is racist! JK... Kate Hudson. Chris Robinson. Dunn. But, 'cause CRob doesn't sound nearly as cool, who cares?.. MJ was never going to perform Thriller. Get over it. He forgot how to mouth those words long ago... Sugarcubes reunite in Iceland. That's cool.. I guess.. Way to go.. Iceland :S... PETA has started to give out MUSIC awards.. in specially marked packages of bacon... Jay-Z plays 7 US cities in one day. Yeah, I don't know why either... And just like Noel Gallagher I've finished cutting everybody up so now I'm just finished.
