THEMUSICALREVOLUTION.COM THIS MONTH: Big RevoWelcome to our newest members: Ernie. Check this out: This month, we were once again graced by the poetic talents of Toronto poet, Omaha RisinG. Mr. Rising asked that his poetry be scanned in rather than simply cut and pasted. One look at his piece, UMBRA should tell you why: http://www.themusicalrevolution.com/weblog/freestylelyricspoetry/index.html
Much love and thanks to Omaha.

EDITORIAL:

It was back in the early '90s that I started to develop a strong LOVE relationship with the funk; not the kind of huggy/kissy "love" that 13 year olds have at the outset of puberty but the deep, hip grinding, lustful love that adults enjoy when they are both desperate and lucky ;P

That being said, the passing of one Mr. James Joseph Brown, Jr. has made this holiday season as serious as it has been joyous for me.

At this juncture, I could start to eulogize. I could point out that without JB, there would be no hip hop, no funk attitude and that soul would be... But, that would only dishonour a man who defies words, whos deeds are undefineable and who gave us so much more.

So, I propose a moment of silence and reflection this holiday season for the aptly named Godfather...

Love,
Mattyy

MUSIC NEWS:

1. NEW POP ALBUM LAUNCHED BY NOBEL PEACE PRIZE LAUREATE: Bangladeshi Banker, Muhammad Yunus is backing an album and video ("Hear Me Now") by British-Norwegian group The Green Children. All proceeds are to go to the building of an eye hospital.

2. JAMES BLUNT JOINS FORCES WITH MEDICINS SANS FRONTIERS: The English singer/former NATO peacekeeper has raised $205,000 for relief agency Medicins Sans Frontieres.

3. ALL MOZART SCORES AVAILABLE FOR FREE ON WWW: http://www.mozarteum.at/
We can thank the International Mozart Foundation, based in Wolfgang's birthplace, Salzburg, Austria for giving us the music. Publisher, Barenreiter of Kassel paid $400,000 for the digital publication rights.

4. IS BBC RADIO 3 DUMBING DOWN IT'S PROGRAMMING?: British MPs on both sides are concerned that the Bs commitment to less live content is not a good move. Politicians argue that the move reduces choice and support for new (and local) artists.

5. BON JOVI/KENNETH COLE FOR THE HOMELESS: The Pop Rock group and fashion designer have teamed up to raise funds for New York homeless. 'R.S.V.P. to Help', an acoustic set and VIP party, will take place at the Tribeca Rooftop in New York City on January 25th.

WHO CARES?: Snoop Dogg is an impostor! At least according to Suge Knight.. Suge Who?.. I was going to say something about Jessica Simpson in this newsletter but apparently she was too nervous... Mariah Carey. Mary Carey.. I don't see the difference, do you?.. Kanye Knievel is going down! Apparently the Evel one didn't appreciate Mr. West ruining his good name. Good?.. Finally, that damn Rolph Harris has apologized for the lyrics to his famous 'Tie Me Kangaroo Down, Sport'. It's only a matter of time 'til he apologizes for the music too... P Diddy welcomed twin daughters into the world this past month. And to celebrate, he wore a dog fir coat to the christening... Finally, Bono has been knighted. We can't call the irish singer "Sir" though.. I guess "God" 'll have to do :S.. And here we go again. Another rapper that did nothing while alive will become famous now that he's dead. D12's Proof is about to release an album and make everyone but him rich. Watta Werld... And. Last but not least. After more than 30 years, the FBI has decided to release their very dangerous file on John Lennon. And.. Nothing has happened... Bye.

Spent the new years in New York. Hit the Apollo in Harlem the day after the big event. Was still buzzin'! Godfather music all over the joint! He lived it hard and well and we're the better off for it.
Big Love.

Yes, James Brown will surely be missed. I first heard when he went into the hospital then a couple hours later I saw over the internet he had passed away.

In my youth in the 70's I followed his music like no other and I'm so glad I was able to see him 2 years ago in London. Upon seeing there I was glad to see and hear him cause I could tell JB didn't have too many more years left to put on the kind of performance he was STILL able to pull off.

RIP my brother you are of to a better place and the heavens will sing your praise.

Peace in 2007
Earle

Amen my brotha!
Saw JB about 10 years ago now in KW, ON.
He played everything at a break-neck pace so as to be able to hit the notes and that he did!
The show was amazing and I feel now that I am one lucky soul to have witnessed the funk in that fashion. Much Love and Go[o]d speed.
