THEMUSICALREVOLUTION.COM THIS MONTH: This month we'd like to welcome Richie and Thanasi, the newest members of TheMusicalRevolution. This past month, our humble site was graced by the poetry of Omaha RisinG. Check:
http://www.themusicalrevolution.com/weblog/freestylelyricspoetry/index.html (scroll down).
Omaha is an active Toronto poet who holds readings in town on a monthly basis. Recently, yours truly was fortunate enough to chat with the bard (who has recently become a member of the Revolution) and he not only performed a piece for me but offered up a handful of works for Revopublication. This means that we can look forward to more Omaha RisinG in the months to come :D Love to O.R. and all the poets that contribute their fine work for our enlightenment/enjoyment.
EDITORIAL:
Big big news!
Finally ONE major record label has dragged themselves clawing and scratching all the way into the 21st century. Parlophone Records, a subsidiary of EMI group has decided to take musical submissions via an online web portal. This means that the independent musician can submit their online package (music/pics/bio/press,etc...) directly to the A&R department of the very same record label that reps Radiohead, Beastie Boys, The Beatles, etc...
Parlophone Website: http://www.parlophone.co.uk/newsite/
Parlophone Demo Submissions: http://www.parlophone.co.uk/jimmy/
The label hasn't made the above portal common knowlege as of yet. The link doesn't even appear on their website. SO... This could be good news for the early bird. If you have a package, it may be a good idea to ship it sooner rather than later. You may at least be able to get a decent response.
My suggestion?
Start your own label and fuck the man - LOL! BUT... I know that we all still wanna believe in a system that will pay us to party and play the music we love for fanatics who worship the ground we walk on.
So.
Submit away. I sincerely hope that we all get famous and happy and everything we could ask for. Meanwhile, I'll be over in this corner working hard and starving - 'cause I'm stoopid like that ;)
Lottery Love,
i220
MUSIC NEWS:
1. NELLY'S CHARITY "JES US 4 JACKIE" IS SAVING LIVES: After the pop rapper's sister died of leukemia, he managed to set up a charity that has been able to already find bone marrow donors for 8 patients.
2. MYSPACE IN SUPPORT OF DAFUR: On Oct. 21, Alice in Chains, Ziggy Marley, TV on the Radio and others perfomed at a series of 20 concerts that organizers dubbed, "Rock For Darfur". The popular web meeting spot donated proceeds to victims of genocide in the war torn country.
3. INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION OF THE PHONOGRAPHIC INDUSTRY ON THE HUNT: The search for "copyright infringers" is now international. 8,000 new lawsuits have been filed in 17 different countries. The London based IFPI which reps 1,450 record companies around the world has even made legal forays into South America and Eastern Europe.
4. CBGB CLOSES ITS DOORS: The Legendary New York punk club where acts like The Ramones, Patti Smith, Blondie and Talking Heads (among many others) honed their skills is officially shutting down. Owner, Hilly Krystal has cited rent rises as the reason.
5. DON HENLEY CARES ABOUT MUSIC: MusiCares Foundation has named the Eagles' drummer/singer their 2007 Person of the Year. Don's work with environmental issues (the Walden Woods Project) and artist development (the Recording Artists' Coalition) hold him in good stead for the coveted prize.
WHO CARES?: WHAM! That's right babies. They're reforming - maybe. Wake me up after they go go... Justin Hawkins has.. quit. *Sobs* *Sobs more* *Sobs uncontrolably* I can't believe it. Who is Justin Hawkins anyway? :P.. Scarlett Johansson is recording an album of Tom Waits songs no less. 3 Words - Vid e Oh my god!.. The Chinese government finally put their collective feet down! Jay Z will not perform in Shanghai. His lyrics have been deemed vulgar by that country's ministry of culture. On a brighter note, Beyonce will be allowed to pimp her latest perfume half neked as long as she gives each minister a.. lapdance... I'm not lying here - they're calling it "Madoption". What do they mean when they suggest that young David may NOT be better off with the self proclaimed "Material Girl"?.. R. Kelly.. R. Kelly.. R. Kelly... First Wham!, now Courtney Love. Alright! Get ready for "spankin' it in public part II" and the prequel to "Star Whores - The Revenge of the Used Tampon"... Bully for the Dixie Chicks! Welcome to the light side. Don't expect everybody who's livin' it daily to give you a standing "o" or anything but much love for trying to salvage at least a little self respect and dignity. You can wash those kneepads now. LOL!

Some of you may be wonderin' why I - "Mr. Revolution" *tongue firmly planted in cheek* would take time out of my bizy (o.k.) day to promote Parlophone and their interests.
#1. Parlophone is a part of E.M.I. group - the (self proclaimed) largest independent.
#2. In the interest of helping others, I feel that it is my duty to let YOU know. If the label system fails us then I'ma gonna call 'em on it - but when it tries to succeed by attempting to make contact with US, then who am I to fault them?
Overall, I try to act in the interest of music - not so much myself if I can help it. Labels failed me! BUT. So what? What good is it to music if I should piss and moan about it, fight back for the sake of fighting and take every cheap deal or freebee that comes my way in order to "get mine"? Better to point out the failings AND successes in hopes for a better system for you and eventually, my kids.
Sometimes I lose my way - I feel that this isn't one of those times. I hope that you and Parlophone will resurect good music! We all benefit from that - corporate and independent.
Big Love.

Q: Why do deadheads swirl their arms when they dance?
A: To keep the music out of their eyes.
Q: What's the difference between a soundman and God?
A: God doesn't think he's a soundman.
Q: What does new age music sound like played backwards?
A: New age music.
