THEMUSICALREVOLUTION.COM THIS MONTH: This month we'd like to send out big love to Robin and recognize the fine country of Estonia. 68 Countries and counting. The "NewMusicalRevolution" Update: Construction Phase II - Main page designed. Objectives are to make the new site more comprehensive, interactive and to cater more to music "fans" since it is us who drive the industry.
EDITORIAL: It has come to my attention that my recent editorials have been drafted while I was in a (uuhm...) "negative" frame of mind. The Michael Jackson sham, the passing of Mrs. Parks, the SONY scandal; I think I even boycotted one editorial in disgust. In short - man, I've been one big fuckin wetend - LOL!
Well, maybe it's the promise of a new year? Maybe it's the need in me to balance things out? Or, maybe it's just the happy disco music that Gus has decided to put on this morning? Either way, I feel that this first editorial of '06 should be a positive one.
In that light, I am pleased to announce that my fine city (Toronto, Canada) has finally initiated it's green box program. Now, not only can we recycle all of our glass, metals, plastics and paper products but we have a city wide composting system as well. This excites me to no end. My mother, who has always been an activist for the environment, is fond of reminding me that we still have a long way to go (and she's right of course) but I am really an optimist and see this as a great step forward :)
On a more global/musical note things are looking up as well. The "One Earth Concert" is scheduled for this upcoming month and the big goal of this years event is to encourage one million homes in Europe to switch to using a renewable energy source!
It is with the above stated in mind that I propose that we look to the music community as a leader in promoting environmental issues. Some of us have already started paving the way - much respect to Mr. Johnson (see MUSIC NEWS). We need to get educated. We need to spread the word. We need to act as a conscience to those who hold the power - industry - those who are often the biggest poluters. But, most of all we need to set an example! Change starts with self and I'm happy as hell that I, as a renter, can now compost as can my entire city. HAPPY New Year.
Suite Love,

MUSIC NEWS:
1. CANADIAN BAND SIMPLE PLAN LOOK TO HELP TEENAGERS IN NEED: For more information about The "Simple Plan Foundation" and to discover how you can help, check: http://www.simpleplan.com/foundation
2. ALICIA KEYS AND BONO RECORD DUET FOR AIDS CHARITY: The song, "Don't Give Up (Africa)" is available on iTunes @: http://www.apple.com/itunes/ All proceeds will go to "Keep a Child Alive". The group is dedicated to providing medicine to families dealing with AIDS and the HIV virus.
3. THE YEAR OF BONO: The Irish rocker/activist has recently added a major honour from Amnesty international and a nod from "Time" as a person of the year to his already crowded mantle.
4. ONE EARTH CONCERT IN CARDIFF WALES: The Darkness and The Strokes have been added to this year's 10 act bill. The event is scheduled to take place on the 28th of January and will be broadcast worldwide to over a billion viewers.
5. JACK JOHNSON - ECO "FRIENDLY" TOUR: Among the changes that the "Middle Man" has incorporated is to run his touring vehicals on biodiesel (keeping 89 tons of carbon-dioxide emissions from polluting the air), selling eco friendly merch and encouraging all venues to set up over 24 recycling centers at his concerts and to only use recycled trash bags, paper towels and toilet paper.
6. WHO CARES?: Eminem is back together with Kim for the minute. Cue the tabloid career... The Gottis have been aquitted. This should further cement our faith in the US judicial system. Cue the widespread panic - LOL!.. Marilyn Manson is married - to a burlesque dancer?? Is that even a career? Is washed up/slightly watered down version of Alice Cooper a career?.. Robbie Williams is NOT gay. He doesn't have anything against being gay but if you mention "gay" and his name in the same sentance, he'll sue you. Oops... Mariah got new kneepads for Xmas last year and it's been all good ever since. Congrats Miss *coughsclearsthroatcorporatewhorecoughsagaintocoverupobvious* Carey... The Beatles/Apple Records vs. EMI, NIKE, Apple Computers, EMI - remember when they used to just make good music?.. Elton John marries David Furnish - not Robbie Williams. Careful... But seriously, congrats to the homosexual community in England who are now legally allowed to enter civil union and enjoy all of the financial/civil benefits of married couples. About time.

Poetry by Angel: What About The Homeless?
on my daily walk
i pass a very green field
a beautiful creek runs through it
birds singing
squirrels playing
such solitude and peace
i feel within my soul
i glimpse a movement
near the oak tree
what can it be?
please no, i don't want to see this
there are homeless people living
amid the grass and foliage
a small child peeks out at me
with sad and disparing eyes
ragged clothes and dirty face
it is cold outside
raining most of the day
these vagabonds are
exiled to living in the
damp cold existence
of the forgotten
a whole family
gathered together
huddled to stay warm
do they have enough
food? are their babies
hungry?
what do i do? i must keep
myself safe,
but how can i walk away
from this?
i walk back home
drive my car
to the nearest thrift store
buying child's clothing
blankets
socks
caps
gloves
then to the grocery store
a warm chicken
some hot chocolate
bread
cheese
milk
what else can i get
to help them fight
for one more day?
i drive up and wave
to the vagabonds
of courage
i give them all my
gifts and they cry and
i cry, i say to them, "i know your pain
i have been where you are
too, don't give up, there will
be a new day",
this is christmas
and they are living
as outcasts
much like mary
and joseph
did on that
special day
with their baby
wrapped in
tattered blankets

ME AND MY HOOPTIE - by Brother Mike
Not so much a music story but I can almost hear ZZ Top's, "Arrested for Driving While Blind" when reading this.

I was raised in the ghetto of the Watts area of Southern California in the early 60's. Man, we was poor. My mama was a single parent with 5 kids. She worked hard at being a nurse and I had to make my own money to help out. I started working when I was 9 years old helpin' my uncle with his cleaning business. I worked for him all through high school. I saved enough money to buy me a "hooptie".
A hooptie is a "less than desireable car". Man, I was so proud of my 1951 Plymouth. Me and my brother, Robert, used to cruize all over Los Angeles in my hootpie. Hey, we weren't ashamed, we figured it's better to have a raggedy ride than a dressed up walk, yo all know what I'm talkin about?
So anyway, me and Robert were cruizin one Friday night in '64, lookin for some honies. Man, it started raining and my windshield wipers wouldn't work. It was bad (couldn't see nothin' at all). So I pulled my hooptie over to the side of the road, and being the ingenious dude that I was, at l7 years old, this is what I did to fix the problem. I opened the trunk of my car and found some twine. I cut a piece of it long enough to string it across my windshield. Man, it was just long enough. I held one piece of it on the drivers side and Robert holds the other piece. We stretched it across the windshield. Man, it worked just right as a windshield wiper. So, I pulled my side inside the car and then Robert pulled his. So we were cruizin' again, happy as can be and laughin so hard.
Man, then I saw the red lights blinking in my rear view mirror. That's right, it was "THE MAN"! He got out of his patrol car and says to me, "boy, whatcha doing here? Where's your windshield
wipers?" I said, "sorry, this is the best I could do with what I had." I couldn't believe it, but this was a cool cop. He started laughing and just gave me a fix-it ticket. He said, "hey man, now you get your wipers fixed, ya hear?" Man, we took off like a lightning bolt.
So I have fond memories of that "Hooptie" of mine. Now, hey I got me a '56 Chevy "Bel-Aire", a '68 "T-bird" and a '70 "Mustang". Still got my hoopties, but man, they all got wind shield wipers. But those were the daze back in the 60's for me.

EDITORIAL:
Numero Uno - Happy holidaze all! Whatever your family celebrates, may you find the time to come together this holiday season and sing out in joyous harmony! Ahh... the chez musical alludings. Now down to buiness.
You see there's this problem and it's called music piracy. Apparently, (very EVIL) people are downloading music to their computers "without permission". The artists who make this music aren't really suffering because they were duped out of CD profits in contracts they were duped into signing. But, wealthy people in suits are starting to find it difficult to make the payments on their mid sized islands in the Pacific Ocean so this "downloading" may just spell the end of the music industry as we know it! :S
BUT. I have an idea; one that will revolutionize the music industry while at the same time put society back 1000 years :) I've been working on software that all record labels will soon be drooling over. It's a program that will soon be installed on every CD that you and I buy. If you try and play one of these recently acquired CDs on your ROM drive, the software that I've developed will secretly install itself on your computer. It will prevent you from copying that CD or any other with my secret technology on it. The program will be extremely hard to remove. Maybe I'll offer up a free uninstaller for download from my site but this program will only further embed my secret hacker - Ha ha ha ha... *evil laugh. I'm still trying to decide if I should also employ my secret program to send ME marketing/user listener habit info over the internet. I could make a lot of money selling this information to any number of industry execs.
On further reflection, if I patent this technology, I can eventually offer it up to other industries as well. The film industry and the gaming/software industries would be a good start... TheMusicalRevolution.Com will take over the entertainment of the entire world! If I get into industrial software, I'll own everybody, Ha ha ha HA hA ha HA ha ha ha ha... ha Ha HA ha hA ha ha ha... ha...
Sounds like Science Fiction theatre doesn't it? Yeah? Read the rest of this newsletter. :(
Mad Love,
i220
MUSIC NEWS:
1. SONY/BMG SUED FOR VIRUSESQUE COPY PROTECTION PROGRAM(S): The State of Texas, among others are sueing the record company for selling over 2 million CDs with the anti-copying software Extended Copy Protection (XCP) and over 20 million CDs with the anti-piracy software, MediaMax. XCP installs itself so deeply on your hard drive that it is almost impossible to remove and MediaMax installs its files even if you click "no" to the user agreement. XCP is said to degrade the performance of the machine and open new security vulnerabilities. Both programs are accused of transmitting data to Sony or the software developer via internet connection for market research purposes. For it's part, Sony has recalled embedded Cds but so far, doesn't seem to be offering up any compensation for "damaged" computers.
2. SONG FOR HURRICANE KATRINA RELIEF CO-WRITTEN BY SHARON STONE: The Song, "Come Together Now" featuring artists such as, Jesse McCartney, The Game, Nick Carter and JoJo is now available for download on iTunes. http://www.apple.com/itunes/
3. FRENCH RAPPERS PREDICTED CURRENT RIOTING: Famous rappers such as NTM, 113, Fonky Family and Alpha 5.20 have all penned rhymes that forshadowed this past month's civil unrest in France. Prophecies such as, "What is it, what is it you're waiting for to start the fire? / The years go by, but everything is still the same / Which makes me ask, how much longer can it last?" made 10 years ago have proven to be sadly accurate.
4. CHECHNYA FINALLY GETS ITS MUSIC FESTIVAL: A rock festival featuring, Russian bands Dead Dolphins, Night Snipers and Prezident which was postponed back in July came to fruitition in November. Some 7000 fans attended the all day event (billed as the region's first major rock concert) in Gudermes. About 3000 police were also on hand.
5. BOB GELDOLF WINS "MAN FOR PEACE" AWARD: Sir Bob was given the honour at the Nobel Peace Prize summit in Rome, Nov. 24th.
6. WHO CARES? - R. Kelly's goin' to court. I'm not sayin' that he's guilty of the 14 counts of posessing child pornography but... "Ga ga"... 50 vs. Kanye. 50 vs. Nas. 50 vs. Jadakiss. Dude, we get it - your mommy doesn't love you... Bruce Bierman claims that he isn't exploiting John Lennon by releasing material that he and the assassinated music hero worked on in the 70's. So I guess all proceeds will be going towards fighting gun crime and Bruce will be keeping his name hush hush... Uhm... too late... Xtina. Married. My advice - bitch, get the fuck knocked up and off've my TV set... Take That are getting ready for their big comeback. "Whatever they said, whatever they did, they didn't mean it." (had to look it up, honest)... Due to a serious lack of any real competition, System of a Down have scored 2 number one billboard debuts in '05 with "Hypnotize"/"Mesmerize". Stay tuned for "Capitalize" and "System of a Franchise" due out next spring/summer... Nick and Jessica are DONE! But, if you think that they are going to disappear from grocery store shelves anytime soon then I have a great vintage guitar to sell you. Mint condition... Mint!
