THEMUSICALREVOLUTION.COM THIS MONTH: This month we'd like to send out big love to Robin and recognize the fine country of Estonia. 68 Countries and counting. The "NewMusicalRevolution" Update: Construction Phase II - Main page designed. Objectives are to make the new site more comprehensive, interactive and to cater more to music "fans" since it is us who drive the industry.
EDITORIAL: It has come to my attention that my recent editorials have been drafted while I was in a (uuhm...) "negative" frame of mind. The Michael Jackson sham, the passing of Mrs. Parks, the SONY scandal; I think I even boycotted one editorial in disgust. In short - man, I've been one big fuckin wetend - LOL!
Well, maybe it's the promise of a new year? Maybe it's the need in me to balance things out? Or, maybe it's just the happy disco music that Gus has decided to put on this morning? Either way, I feel that this first editorial of '06 should be a positive one.
In that light, I am pleased to announce that my fine city (Toronto, Canada) has finally initiated it's green box program. Now, not only can we recycle all of our glass, metals, plastics and paper products but we have a city wide composting system as well. This excites me to no end. My mother, who has always been an activist for the environment, is fond of reminding me that we still have a long way to go (and she's right of course) but I am really an optimist and see this as a great step forward :)
On a more global/musical note things are looking up as well. The "One Earth Concert" is scheduled for this upcoming month and the big goal of this years event is to encourage one million homes in Europe to switch to using a renewable energy source!
It is with the above stated in mind that I propose that we look to the music community as a leader in promoting environmental issues. Some of us have already started paving the way - much respect to Mr. Johnson (see MUSIC NEWS). We need to get educated. We need to spread the word. We need to act as a conscience to those who hold the power - industry - those who are often the biggest poluters. But, most of all we need to set an example! Change starts with self and I'm happy as hell that I, as a renter, can now compost as can my entire city. HAPPY New Year.
Suite Love,

MUSIC NEWS:
1. CANADIAN BAND SIMPLE PLAN LOOK TO HELP TEENAGERS IN NEED: For more information about The "Simple Plan Foundation" and to discover how you can help, check: http://www.simpleplan.com/foundation
2. ALICIA KEYS AND BONO RECORD DUET FOR AIDS CHARITY: The song, "Don't Give Up (Africa)" is available on iTunes @: http://www.apple.com/itunes/ All proceeds will go to "Keep a Child Alive". The group is dedicated to providing medicine to families dealing with AIDS and the HIV virus.
3. THE YEAR OF BONO: The Irish rocker/activist has recently added a major honour from Amnesty international and a nod from "Time" as a person of the year to his already crowded mantle.
4. ONE EARTH CONCERT IN CARDIFF WALES: The Darkness and The Strokes have been added to this year's 10 act bill. The event is scheduled to take place on the 28th of January and will be broadcast worldwide to over a billion viewers.
5. JACK JOHNSON - ECO "FRIENDLY" TOUR: Among the changes that the "Middle Man" has incorporated is to run his touring vehicals on biodiesel (keeping 89 tons of carbon-dioxide emissions from polluting the air), selling eco friendly merch and encouraging all venues to set up over 24 recycling centers at his concerts and to only use recycled trash bags, paper towels and toilet paper.
6. WHO CARES?: Eminem is back together with Kim for the minute. Cue the tabloid career... The Gottis have been aquitted. This should further cement our faith in the US judicial system. Cue the widespread panic - LOL!.. Marilyn Manson is married - to a burlesque dancer?? Is that even a career? Is washed up/slightly watered down version of Alice Cooper a career?.. Robbie Williams is NOT gay. He doesn't have anything against being gay but if you mention "gay" and his name in the same sentance, he'll sue you. Oops... Mariah got new kneepads for Xmas last year and it's been all good ever since. Congrats Miss *coughsclearsthroatcorporatewhorecoughsagaintocoverupobvious* Carey... The Beatles/Apple Records vs. EMI, NIKE, Apple Computers, EMI - remember when they used to just make good music?.. Elton John marries David Furnish - not Robbie Williams. Careful... But seriously, congrats to the homosexual community in England who are now legally allowed to enter civil union and enjoy all of the financial/civil benefits of married couples. About time.
*Collected from a variety of online NEWS sources and summed up here for your enjoyment/enlightenment.*
