The String Cheese Incident, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Keller Williams, Xavier Rudd & Umphrey's Mcgee... Two Stages at the "Docks" in TO/ON. Damn MoFo!!! The change of venue (due to a strike), the hour long wait in 40 degree weather after security had confiscated our water, and the absence of two bands due to problems with "Canadian Customs" or sumthin' did nothing to spoil this freakin' unbelievable concert. Umphrey's - unfunkinbelievable. Jam rawk with tons o' funk and a little metal c/o slik dual guitrs. Gus bought the set - I listened this marnin' just to make sure I wasn't imaginin' shait - superb! Xavier Rudd was insane man. One Australian, three didgeridoos, a slide guitar, an acoustic, a bass drum and various other percussion toyz - man, cat can play. Not to mention the fact that his crowd was massive. Keller Williams was pretty good for what I saw but we decided that we wanted to try and get front row for the Franti after witnessing his keyboard player jam with UM and the man himself bust out some freestyle rhymez with tha Xman. Mission accomplished! I've heard it said that Harper is a religious experience - well, that's what this felt like. #1, I've never been at the front of a crowd so big and able to watch/dance/groove so comfortably. The band were beyond sick! Michael jammed tha acoustic. He stomped his stompblock. He spat verse and danced. He told stories of his partonage to tha Middle East. He sent out music to Mr. Bush himself as a token of goodwill and hope for peace. As if shit weren't crazy enuff, at the end a few of the Cheeses came out for a big drum circle and Michael led them down thru the crowd (we had to help lift a few of them down :), out the back and onto the patio for a rousing 20 minute drumdown complete with hoola hoopers, mascots and dancing gurls!! There was more Keller jammin with tha Umphreys and the mighty SCI after but all that was suite wind down for me after tha men themselves killed!!
BIG Love!
