THEMUSICALREVOLUTION.COM THIS MONTH: Welcome. Big Love to Anna and the fine folx from Jordan and New Zealand. 60 Countries and counting. OK. So one out of three IS bad. I didn't get "Gold Dust Woman" posted and I didn't get "Red Hawt Mama" to even the point where I would want to add the extra special guest vocal but I did get the spam control up on the weblog with a minimum of help I might add :) Check it out @:

http://www.themusicalrevolution.com/weblog/

Just try and comment on anything without a code... I DARE ya - LOL!! Truth is, I've been hard at work planning the second half of my (Corporate Cash Cow...'s) Independent Musician Cross Canada Tour, Part II - Eastern Canada. I WILL be posting dates on the above WEBLOG webaddress so keep an eye out this month. I won't live it down if the GDW doesn't get posted before I leave and the first thing on my agenda when I get back'll be to relive tha Funkadelic glory.

EDITORIAL:

Since Michael has been declared a free man and his stranglehold on entertainment media has finally eased up a little there seems to be one story that has become the focus of all music news people; Live 8. The free tickets, the various locations, the performers, the underlying politics, whether Bob Geldof prefers a greek or caesar salad with his orange ruffy - all have been under constant scrutiny since the man announced the concert agenda last month. One news story, in particular, has really made an impression upon me.

Apparently, scalpers have taken to selling tickets through various avenues including the web and ebay in particular. Sir Bob himself responded by calling ebay a "pimp". I personally thought it would be funny if the online service decked out it's homepage in fur and fake gold chains to honour it's new status but ebay responded by immediately removing any offending ticket bargains.

At this point two scenarios came to mind. One was of my good old friend scheister Sam who can always see a way to make easy money. Dude probably was the first one on the phones to all've his syndicate uncovering loopholes and ways to get his greedy little hands on as many "units" as possible. He probably had the account set up and the tickets turned over before BG could open his morning newspaper. The second was of some struggling young "African American" idealist boy who had an idea and enough friends to turn over some free tix and (after buying himself too much candy) sent the rest of the money back home to the old country to feed his starving relatives.

The fact that scenario two seems so unlikely to me just shows me how easy I have it. And the fact that I know at least a half dozen "scheister Sam's" tells me that I should keep better company. Either way, the fact that Bob Geldof can shut down "free" trade on ebay with the wave of his hand is disturbing to me. No one man should have that power. Keep up the good work B but please don't sacrifice any more basic freedoms to do it. Just my opinion. (Not going to Live 8 :( Not any richer).
Big Love,

NEWS:

1. NEW COLDPLAY ALBUM SETS RECORD FOR ONLINE PRE-ORDERS: "X&Y", the new album by Chris Martin and the boys has been atop of Amazon's UK chart since March. The CD was released at the beginning of June.

2. MUSICIANS SHOW SUPPORT FOR DEMOCRACY IN BURMA: Last year REM, Sir Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton, U2, Coldplay, Sting and Travis all donated songs to an album in aid of the US Campaign for Burma. This past month, Irish musician Damien Rice released "Unplayed Piano", a song written for Burmese pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi. REM recently staged a concert in support of the nobel peace prize winning San Suu Kyi. The concert was for 25,000 fans at Ireland's Ardgillan Castle and was beamed by satellite into Burma. Ms. Suu Kyi is currently under house arrest since her convoy was attacked while she was on a political tour of northern Burma more than two years ago.

3. TUPAC AMARU SHAKUR CENTER FOR THE ARTS OPENED IN STONE MOUNTAIN ATLANTA: The center was opened on Saturday June 11 by the late rapper's mother, Afeni Shakur-Davis. The center has been a goal of the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation (TASF) since 1999.

4. EBAY SHUTS DOWN PEOPLE TRYING TO PEDDLE LIVE 8 TICKETS: Shortly after tickets became available for the upcoming set of concerts dubbed "Live 8", folks began selling the tickets on ebay. The effort's organizer, Bob Geldof issued a statement dubbing the site a "pimp". Ebay has since shut down the offending salespeople.

5. US SUPREME COURT RULES TO ALLOW RECORD COMPANIES TO SUE ILLEGAL FILE SHARING FIRMS: Artists such as The Eagle's Don Henley, Tom Jones, Bonnie Raitt, The Dixie Chicks, Sheryl Crow and Jay-Z have gone on record as supporters of the decision. They argue that it's a victory for those who "make a living from the creative process" and that the millions in advertising revenue that sites like "Morpheus" turn over should be shared with the artists. Still others, like singer-songwriter Jan Ian feel that the move would make it harder for new bands to gain a foothold in the industry.

6. WHO CARES? - Big brawl at a Snoop Dog Concert - ain't that like toast at breakfast?.. Michael Jackson found "not guilty" on all counts. WooooooOOOOHHHHHH Yeah! Yeah Yeah! Damn Diggity Damn! Now can he just go tha f@*k away please?.. Rap artist, Cassidy is wanted for murder! Murder people!! Don't buy his album please or pretty soon the only person who'll be able to get a hit is the unibomber... Avril Lavigne and Sum 41's Deryck Whibley are engaged, but how do Paris and that damn dog feel about it?.. No more Destiny's Child. They were talented. I am sad. Two werds, three letters: En Vogue, T.L.C... And this is what's left of the news.

Wed.Aug.4-Thur.Aug.5/04 - Calgary/Lethbridge/Picture Butte, AB

Corporate Cash Cow... Independent Musician Cross Canada Tour (Pt 1) Western Canada.

Re-connecting with Gus' past, sexy ladies and hecklers that would give you the shirts off've their backs.

Wednesday August 4th is a travelling day. A lot of it is spent in an old Uncle Jesse truck bouncin' across the western country side. Finally seein' Lethbridge is pretty decent as I've heard alot about the place (K territory from BITD). Meeting Gus' friends Chris, Natalie and their crew, partaking in the Moxie's HUGE chocolate brownie and blowing up my brand new air matress for the first time are all highlights of the day. But the biggest and best is meeting the kids - Maren and Mason. Beautiful younguns with energy to spare - at least until naptime :D

Thursday tells a different tale. During the daylight hours we play the part of tourists with C, N and the littleuns acting as our guides. We pack tha whole fam-dam into a minivan and head down to the coulee which is a Lethbridge spot of interest. Apparently, the railway bridge that spans the riverbed is the longest/highest of its kind. Also, apparently someone decides to jump off've the bridge monthly :S We check out an old fort with cows (alberta beef live :). We finish off our Lethbridge tour at the park watching the kids expend some energy on the apparatus there (climb the net seems to be a hit).

The gig that night is in Picture Butte, a small town just north of Lethbridge. I head out early for set up. Gus and tha gang decide to follow up later. So I pull into the Cactus Pub and immediately notice that the front is lined with pickup trucks; not an SUV or sports sedan to be found. LOL! I load in and there's the token regulars at the bar, country rawk on the system and typically over accomodating staff. The owner/operator, Greg is especially helpful. He gets me set up with the gear and notifies me that start time is 8pm - farmers hours. Woah!

I barely have time for a warm up and it's showtime! The first set is a quiet one performed for a few regulars and the staff. The encouraging thing is that the crowd is slowly growing in size and my posse hasn't even got in yet. About 4 or five songs into the set a rowdy bunch roll in, order beers and immediately begin heckling me; I sing, "They paved paradise, put up a parking lot." - Cat yells, "It was in the fucking way!" I can't help but flub the entire first verse laughing. A couple of more songs pass by and the same heckler decides it's time he ended the set so he invites me out for a session. About this time Kristi and her crew roll in so a coupla finale tunes are in order. The place packs up nicely.

During the break, I really start to feel the western hospitality. One older cat literally offers me the shirt off've his back as a souvenir. I'm thinking that either these folk really dig acoustic music or that they are pretty excited about the attractive group of out of towners that have just invaded their local; Gus, Nat and Nat's sister-in-law Kari definitely stick out lets just put it that way. Nah, it must be my playing - LOL!!

After the break shit gets blurry... Cats are yelling tunes at me right and left. "Do you know how to play this... that... (I need to know every tune ever recorded)." "Nirvana?" Out comes "Heart Shaped Box". Bingo! Shit gets rowdy. Shooters start to fly; the ladies receiving more that their share. One dude asks Nat out to dinner in front of her husband :O Luckily, Chris is pretty calm 'cause he's also quite built. At some point somebody produces a rubber chicken, puts a cigarette in it's mouth and lights it - "What tha...?" 3 sets later, a rousing choral version of Sandler's, "At A Medium Pace" and the dust begins to settle.

After the pics are snappt. After everybody's signed the chicken. After dude has apologized to Chris for the hundredth time. And after a very happy Greg has sent me off with his blessing, we roll back into Lethbridge, tired as hell, knowing that the kids will be keeping us honest in just a few short hours. What a gig.

Next time - Medicine hat. Fetish shops, free house boat trips and prar.i..e dr..i...vi...ng... *snores*.

A Theory - i220 Prose

Life is a test.
To pass, all you need to do is make the world a better place.
No quitting.

Procreate. Help. Represent the positive. Good.
Kill. Trample. Be a negative force. Hurt your cause.

The tree knows. It doesn't move.
The dinasaur knew. So they were forgiven.
The fish sense it. They don't think about it too much.
The fly doesn't want to know. They live just long enough to make more.
The rat improvises. They exist on our waste.
The wolf is learning. They have no other choice.
But we?

THEMUSICALREVOLUTION.COM THIS MONTH: Viet Nam. El Salvador. 58 Countries and counting. Worldwyde baby! Fleetwood Mac's "Gold Dust Woman" as arranged and performed by Corporate Cash Cow... is all but ready to post: Gold Dust Woman Funkadelic's "Red Hawt Mama" as arranged and performed by i220/special guest should be available by month's end *crosses fingers*: Red Hawt Mama WebmasterFinnay has let me in on some more spam-blocking secrets for: Free Speech: themusicalrevolution.com so keep on tha lookout for that. And finally, I have been researchin' web "technologies" and looking to design a Mark II of this site. The idea would be to make it more interactive/informative/communal. If you feel that this site could better serve you (as a lover of NEW music) in any way please, PLEASE don't hesitate to forward ideas to: weblog@themusicalrevolution.com

EDITORIAL: "Drivin that train, high on cocaine..." So, this upcoming month will be the month of reckoning. Can I complete the "Independent Musician Cross Canada Tour"? Part 2 (Eastern Canada) has been in the planning for a few weeks now and damn it's a hard sell! One cat, a guitar and a pocket full of songs tryin' to perform his way across the country; who's buyin'? LOL!! But, I am determined and doing it alone: The practicing, the planning, the purchasing, the booking, the bussing (well, Gus'll keep me company on that one, I hope), the performing, the promoting and the wheeling and dealing. So here it is, the moment of truth. Wish me luck. I'm going in. Will let you know when the dust settles.

Big Love,
i220

NEWS:

1. MURDERED SCOTTISH TEEN MUSICALLY EULOGIZED: The band "The Killers" have recorded a song, "Where Is She?", to remember murdered 14 year old Jodi Jones. The 14 year old from Dalkeith was murdered in June of 2003 by her then boyfriend. "Where is She" Lyrics

2. GWEN STEFANI GIVES TO TSUNAMI RELIEF: Proceeds from her new "What color is love?" t-shirt will be donated to the survivors of the recent disaster in South Asia. The t-shirt is the latest offering from the No Doubt singer's L.A.M.B. line of clothing. No Doubt Web Site

3. STEVIE WONDER'S VIDEO FOR THE BLIND: "So What's The Fuss?" - the latest release by the visually impaired funkster is the first music video to contain an additional audio track which describes the action taking place on the screen. "So What's The Fuss" Video Clip

4. LIVE AID 2 IS IN THE WORKS: Bob Geldolf has unveiled the plans for a second Live Aid concert which will be dubbed, "Live 8". The event will be held in London's Hyde Park on the 2nd of July with other concerts in Philadelphia, Paris, Rome and Berlin. Madonna, Coldplay, REM, Dido, Sir Paul McCartney, Keane, U2, Oasis, The Rolling Stones, The Who and Elton John are all slated to perform. Unlike the original show held 20 years ago, this one will be directed at the G8 summit and debt relief for third world countries.

5. WHO CARES? - Little band signs big deal. Little band gets big. Little band wants out of said deal. I have a really hard time routing for Linkin Park wanting out of their contract with Warners. Just finish your obligation and move on - quit pissing and moaning... The Stones should be back on the road by August. A new album with new material. Same old band. Same older musicians... Speaking of capitalizing on old success. Cream got back together for one more dance in the white room. I loved Cream when Eric was a little less slick, Jack a little less creaky and Ginger a little more ginger. But the idea of paying 4 grand for a ticket to see a band who hasn't played a show since the sixties seems a little like paying $20 to get in to watch kareoke night at the 4H club... Has Beyonce fired her dad? Man is she gonna get it when mom comes home... I'm sure you heard about Kylie Minogue and her breast cancer surgery. No jokes - much love!.. Apparently, Limp Bizkit has gone back underground. Oooohhh! Does that mean that I'll see Fred working out in the garden center with me this summer? Yeah right! Fred - sucking doesn't mean underground - kwite the opposite.
